As part of the Work Package 4, the Egyptian partner Animal Reproduction Research Institute (ARRI), under the coordination of Dr. Moustafa Fadel, carried out hair sampling on buffaloes and cattle in selected commercial farms.
The collected samples will be used for DNA extraction and subsequent genotyping in Italy, with the aim of estimating the breeding values for traits related to production, reproduction, health, and environmental sustainability. These activities are carried out by UNIBO and ANASB in collaboration with the Italian Holstein, Brown and Jersey National Breeders Association (ANAFIBJ) and will results into the selection of genetically superior animals in the Egyptian populations. The task is intended to provide material for the definition of smart mating plans and strategies aimed at improving the lactating animals’ efficiency of the farmers’ profit.
